We are so excited to participate in this new meme, Whatcha Thinking Thursday! Each week, we'll post something related to books that we've been thinking about for a while. Whatcha Thinking Thursday is hosted by A Reader's Ramblings, so be sure to check out her site to see her thoughts and other blogs participating!
So, here's what I'm thinking this Thursday!
With all of the hype surrounding the release of Mockingjay (review coming soon!), I've been thinking about book series - specifically, the last book in the series. Some people have read this conclusion to the Hunger Games trilogy as fast as possible; others have wanted to draw out the experience.
I have always felt a mixture of excitement and dread at the last book in a series. While I get to read another book by a great author with some of my favorite characters, I know that the world that an author created will be fully defined; the story will be over. If the series has been especially consuming, I find myself still thinking about the characters - what are they doing now? Does the happily-ever-after last? I find myself discontent with the reality to which I've returned and long for another glimpse into the magical world between the covers.
And then I realize - that world is magical because it is defined. When I reread the series, I know what I will find (though I also find new insights and connections). I know that, despite the challenges and failures the characters face, everything will be as it should in the end. It is the familiarity that makes the series endearing. When things in life are going wrong, when I need cheering up or a good laugh, or when I need some words of wisdom, I will know where to turn.
So the end of a series really means possibilities: the possibility to reread and come to love a great series even more, and the possibility of discovering yet another great series to read.
What are your thoughts?

Amanda Devereaux has no idea what's in store for her when she finds herself handcuffed to a Dark Hunter. In fact, she has no idea what a Dark Hunter is. For years she's dreamed of a normal life, but it seems she will never get her wish.
Kyrian of Thrace was crucified by the Romans. Yet he's back, walking the earth as a Dark Hunter, hunting the Daimon Desiderius. He has sworn an oath, part of which requires him to protect humans; another part of which requires that he not become romantically involved with human women. Yet he finds himself drawn to Amanda...
Thrown together in a fight for their life, Kyrian and Amanda must learn to trust each other...and the miraculous bond that they share.
Full of action, emotional histories, and plot twists, this book definitely keeps you turning pages. I loved seeing characters from the first book again as well as meeting characters whose books come later in the series. I'm starting the next book right away!

Julian of Macedon is every woman's fantasy - a love slave with the perfection of a Greek god. Literally. Grace Alexander is a 29-year-old sex therapist working off the principle of "those who can't do, teach." Yet she is the only one who can save Julian from his curse...
Summoned one night as a joke, Julian comes to Grace, intent on serving her as he has other women in the past. But Grace has other ideas about him. At times funny, poignant, and steamy, their relationship grows, as they confront their pasts and discover their future. Of course, when the Greek gods, goddesses, and demigods get involved, life is certain to be interesting.
I loved this book and can't wait to read the next one!
